She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.
Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.
Her father was right. The monsters are real….
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies…
Off with their heads.
Alice in Zombieland is a fresh and chilling read that had me creeped out and the sudden urge to fight some zombies. This is the zombie story I've been waiting for!
Let me begin by saying this: this book was not what I was expecting. I was expecting an Alice in Wonderland re-telling where our beloved heroine tumbles down the rabbit hole, finds the magical and dark world of Wonderland, and must stop the Queen of Hearts from taking over the land. That is not what I got from Alice in Zombieland. But you know what's the craziest thing? It actually worked. AiZ is more of a zombie story than anything else - but honestly, it's addictive! I couldn't dare set this book down at any time, because I was so intrigued and enthralled by the world that Showalter wove together. A new gem in YA!
Ali is such a great character. I loved her right from page one, and she never let me down. I was so happy to go on this haunting and out-of-this-world creepy journey with her. I mean, come on! Fighting zombies with Alice? Yes please. And the whole entire ensemble was great! A character that sticks out, of course, is Cole. I didn't trust Cole in the beginning (I just KNEW something sinister was swirling around him), but as Alice in Zombieland progresses, his character development skyrockets. Showalter puts Ali and Cole's bond to the test (I mean, how could it not when fighting zombies?), and I really appreciated that!
Woah! Talk about a crazy ending! I was literally on the edge of my seat for the last 50 pages - they were insane! I tore through the last portion of the book, and I was devastated after I turned the last page. I need more right then and there! My only question is: why did I wait so long to read this?! I loved it so much!
Overall, Alice in Zombieland is a unique and enthralling take on the timeless story, but with a dark and haunting twist that seemed almost impossible to pull off. But Gena Showalter totally does. Absolutely loved this book!

I've wanted to get this book so bad, but something's always pulled me away from buying a copy. I adore my zombie books though and I'm glad the story worked for you! Hopefully it'll work for me too, great review Brad:)
