Rachel is trapped in a tower, held hostage by a woman she’s always called Mama. Her golden hair is growing rapidly, and to pass the time, she watches the snow fall and sings songs from her childhood, hoping someone, anyone, will hear her.

Wyatt needs time to reflect or, better yet, forget about what happened to his best friend, Tyler. That’s why he’s been shipped off to the Adirondacks in the dead of winter to live with the oldest lady in town. Either that, or no one he knows ever wants to see him again.

Dani disappeared seventeen years ago without a trace, but she left behind a journal that’s never been read, not even by her overbearing mother…until now.

A #1 New York Times bestselling author, Alex Flinn knows her fairy tales, and Towering is her most mind-bending interpretation yet. Dark and mysterious, this reimagining of Rapunzel will have readers on the edge of their seats wondering where Alex will take them next!

I'm a sucker for YA fairytale re-tellings, and Towering was absolutely, absolutely fantastic! Alex Flinn nailed it with this book. Towering is one of my favorite reads of the year for sure!

One thing you should know about me is that I love fairytale re-tellings so much - to be honest, I think they might be my favorite subgenre in YA. I was anticipating Towering so hard, and luckily, it didn't disappoint me any! I was nervous because I thought it might be a bit slow-packed (stuck in a tower all day, there can't possibly be much to do, no?), but I was so, so, so wrong. Towering is incredibly fast-paced. Events and plot twists are thrown at the reader quickly, and the story keeps flowing, and I love it when a book is like that! And like I said, there are many plot twists (especially at the end) that I did not see coming. Towering is one of my new favorite books... ever. You don't even understand how much I love this book!

The characters were fantastic as well. I adore Rachel beyond belief. I felt so many emotions with her, and she was truly the shining point of Towering. I loved her character development, and honestly, just everything about her amazed me. Love her. And Wyatt was great too! He definitely wasn't what I was expecting from the male lead, but Flinn did a great job at weaving his character together! And of course, who could forget Mama... Mama had me on the edge of my seat. I had no idea what her emotions would be when she'd come up in a chapter, whether she'd be happy or in a tantrum. The suspense of knowing who she truly was had me biting at my fingernails - needless to say, Flinn did an amazing job with this re-telling.

Flinn hit it out of the ballpark with her latest novel. So many twists and turns, surprises and shockers, I couldn't put Towering down for a single minute. I can't even express my love enough without going into a gush rant. Easily one of my favorites of the year. Without a doubt.

Overall, Towering is a marvelous gem. Stunning, gripping and fantastic, Towering is one of the best re-tellings I've ever read.

  1. Yay! I have an e-galley of this one, but just haven't been able to get to it yet. I love re-tellings, too, and was kind of skeptical about this one, so it's awesome to hear that it's worth picking up. Great review! I'm excited to read this one now.
